Who Cries for God?

Free verse poem

Recently, I browsed a royalty-free stock image library for a photo of God.

To my utter surprise, the search results yielded a full page of "false god" statue stock images (e.g., Buddha, Devi Durga).

Well, of course, I frowned at this.

But, moments later, I began to realize that worshipping those "false gods" isn't the only form of idolatry people engage in.

What is idolatry?

As Christians, we tend to ignore obvious and subtle forms of idolatry like technology, shopping, hobbies, etc.,

Idolatry, if it goes unchecked ultimately leads to a dark path of destruction.

Certain character changes will begin to manifest, even in once-devoted, mature Christians like,

  • Indifference toward God
  • Carnality
  • Disobedience
  • Spiritual imbalance
  • Reprobate

I soon realized that we're all guilty of the sin of idolatry, in one way or another.

Pondering on the subject of idolatry, I soon fell under conviction for it. I repented and said this prayer following my illuminating experience.

"Tearfully I stated, “Father God, please forgive me for breaking your heart when I've knowingly or unknowingly, committed the sin of idolatry. And, help me to prioritize you above social media and whatever doesn't feed me spirit man."

Following the prayer, I was inspired to craft a free verse poem that expresses my sentiments on the subject.

Who Cries for God?

Who cries for God, while He watches His depraved creation fall into a dark pit of destruction?

Who cries for God, when mankind bows to worship other gods instead of the one “true” God?

Who cries for God, when He's ignored, and rejected, but urgently sought out during their crisis?

Who cries for God, when a blasphemous individual claims He's a fairy tale and doesn’t exist?

Who cries for God, when He’s not appreciated for bestowing daily provisions upon mankind?

Who cries for God, when His faithful followers stumble, and blindly accept heretical doctrine?

Who cries for God, when babies are mercilessly slaughtered by the millions for political gain?

Who cries for God, when the overwhelming love He has for His creation is not reciprocated?
