Let's Release Our Idols!

This sin sneaks in when we're unaware

God is filled with compassion, mercy, and He loves unconditionally. In fact, He absolutely adores His creation. He desperately wanted to reconnect with us, even when the connection was lost through sin and disobedience.

This was evident by the agape love shown through the death and resurrection of His only begotten son, Jesus Christ.

As fallible children of God, we tend to fall short of His expectations. We place other things before God instead of maintaining that connection with Him. Before the advent of modern technology, we weren't as distracted as we are now.

With social media, mobile apps, computer games, etc., it's no wonder we're bombarded by distractions. Though these technological gadgets and systems are helpful and convenient, overusing them can drown out the voice of God.

This can go unrecognized and before we know it, we've created idols out of technological gadgets. By habitually ignoring quiet time with God, we place ourselves in a detrimentally spiritual state.

Being caught up in the oblivion of this form of idolatry keeps us ill-prepared for the unexpected. So, when trouble comes knocking on our doors, we suddenly want to gravitate toward God and plead with Him to rescue us out of our crisis.

Not only do we want to be helped, but we want an immediate, do-it-right-now type of rescue. However, when God wants our undivided attention, we ignore Him and give preferential treatment to our idols of technology.

He wants to be the center of our attention, not just sometimes, but always. God knows what's best for us and can see what we can't He may have wanted to alert us to an impending danger, but were too busy to talk to Him.

However, when the danger slams us in the face, we cry out in a "where are you God" type of way. Let's commit to putting God first all of the time, not sometimes and let go of those idols!

Prayer: Dear, Father God, deliver us from self-centeredness, and help us to make you the center of oue lives, even in our business. Teach us to remain laser-focused on our obligation to put you first andn deliver us from every form of idolatry. In Jesus Christ's name, amen.
